Purple Martin Recovery Project
Our Scout group has formed a community environmental partnership with the City of Port Coquitlam and Envirowest to help out with the BC Purple Martin Stewardship and Recovery Program. The Scouts have been busy behind the scenes making this project happen. its not only been a lot of fun, but also a great learning experience for all. |
This environmental program is designed to help bring back the Purple Martin bird in our area, and the plan right now is to install approximately 17 boxes by the Pitt River Bridge in the new reclaimed wetlands project as well as every year incorporating a bird box clean up, bird count and box maintenance efforts into our program.
Scouts Canada is also supporting this project as part of Good Turn Week. They will be providing funds to ensure that we can build additional bird houses and raise awareness for the Purple Martin Project within the community.
